Free Fishing Weekend June 2-3, 2012
Scheduled Events
Franklin County:
Kentucky Fish
and Wildlife headquarters, kids’ fishing events, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. EST Friday,
June 1, and 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. EST Saturday, June 2. Only youths who are 15 or
under may fish in the upper lake during those times. The lower lake will remain
open for all anglers. The upper lake will open to all anglers after 11 a.m. EST
Saturday. A special stocking of the upper lake will include approximately 1,200
channel catfish ranging up to 10 pounds. The upper lake will close to all
fishing
Friday, until that day’s fishing event for youths.
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife headquarters is located off U.S. 60 in Frankfort, 1.5
miles west of U.S. 127.
Bath County:
Cave Run Lake – Partnership between Dept. of Justice and KDFWR Northeastern
Fisheries District. Saturday June 2 from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.. Bomb
sniffing dogs, command vehicles, FBI and similar agencies. Games and prizes.
Barren County:
Barren River State Resort Park, youth fishing derby for kids ages 15 and under,
beginning at 9 a.m. CST June 2. Fishing poles and bait provided. Park is located
southeast of Bowling Green off U.S.31 East.
Henderson County:
Audubon State Park, June 3rd Ohio Valley
Fly Rod Fishing Club. Fly tying and casting instruction. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Kenton County:
Saturday, June 2 - The event happens at Middleton-Mills Park, located at 3415
Mills Rd., Covington, KY 41015. From I-275, take Exit 79 (Covington-Taylor
Mill) and drive seven miles south on KY Hwy 16 to Mills Road. Turn left on Mills
Road and drive about one mile to the park. They'll be using Shelterhouse 1,
right on the pond you see as you enter the park. 9 a.m. to noon.
Pulaski County:
Goodwater Pond, Daniel Boone National Forest, 8:30 a.m. to noon EST, June 2.
Open to youth ages 5 to 15, and seniors over the age of 60.
Russell County:
Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery, 26th Annual Catch a
Rainbow Kids Fishing Derby, for kids up to age 15, beginning 9 a.m. CST, June 2.
Prizes, free registration. Different age groups fish at different times
throughout the day. Poles furnished for kids under 5 years old, others must
bring their own fishing gear. Visit

hatchery creek below Wolf Creek Dam, off U.S. 127, approximately 12 miles south
of Jamestown.
Rowan County:
Minor E. Clark Fish Hatchery, southwest of Morehead, off KY 801, 6:30 a.m. to
11:30 a.m. EST June 2. Fishing allowed in two hatchery ponds for kids up to age
15. Ponds stocked with trout, catfish and bass. Free registration. Bring own
gear, some bait provided. All kids must be accompanied by an adult. Prizes and
goodie bags provided to participants.
Jefferson County:
Saturday June 2, Kids Derby from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tom Wallace Lake in the
Jefferson Memorial Forest.
McCracken County:
“Noble Park Fish Out” on June 2 begins at 9 a.m. on Noble Park Lake. For
children ages 6 to 12 and limited to first 100 to register. You can register
