Minimum Requirement - Primary Education :

High school graduate.

Minimum Requirement - Primary Experience :

Must have one year of experience in the transmission, receiving and relaying of electronic information for law enforcement, emergency medical, fire, emergency management, military communications, traffic operations or as a multi-line telephone receptionist.

Education Substitution :

College will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Special Requirements :

Shall not have been convicted of a felony or other crimes pursuant to KRS 15.540.

Post Employment Requirements :

Must obtain certification as a Telecommunicator by the Department of Criminal Justice Training and LINK/NCIC Operator within twelve months of employment and maintain this certification for the length of employment in this classification.

Description of Vacancy's Duties :

The successful candidate will be required to work most holidays and weekends. This position requires working all shifts (including some overnight shifts) to staff 24/7 dispatch station. This position will require some travel with a five week training period in Richmond during the first six months of service. This position requires good communication skills and ability to handle high stress situations during both telephone and radio communications.

AUXILIARY LAW ENFORCEMENT

Characteristics of the Class :

Performs beginning level work in the transmission, receiving and relaying of information for public safety and law enforcement related activities. Learns to operate various types of telecommunications equipment for dispatching agency personnel and communicating with other law enforcement officials; and performs other duties as required.

Typical Working Conditions and Unique Physical Requirements :

Work is in a communications environment. Must be able to operate keyboard and possess good communication skills. Must be able to speak clearly and have good eyesight and hearing in order to operate communications equipment and search N.C.I.C. and LINK information for law enforcement personnel throughout the state. Works in a stressful environment and may be required to work all three shifts as assigned, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
