Lewis County WMA. Location & Size: Lewis County, 1,156 acres Contact (606) 474-8535 Elevation minimum 488 feet, maximum 993 feet. Area Habitat mostly open land: open land 70%, forest 28%, wetland 0%, open water 2%. Entrance GPS coordinates: Latitude N 38.66152, Longitude W -83.10319 Directions & Description: Located along KY 8, ten miles west of South Shore, KY. The area is a blend of large crop fields, old fields, shrubland, and woodlots which are frequently very dense. The bulk of the WMA is bottomlands along the Ohio River. Beavers and backwater flooding create seasonal wetland areas. Open to hunting, wildlife watching, photography and fishing. No centerfire rifles are permitted for deer hunting. This area is owned by the American Electric Power Company (AEP) and leased to the Ky. Dept. Fish and Wildlife Resource for public access and hunting. AEP controls most of the crop that is grown on the area.
