Kentucky's Hunting Access Sites
CONSOL of Kentucky WMA. Location & Size: Floyd & Knott counties, 4,693 acres Contact (606) 878-9595 Elevation minimum 720 feet, maximum 1960 feet. Area Habitat mostly forest: open land 22%, forest 78%, wetland 0%, open water 0%. Entrance GPS coordinates: Latitude N 37.4447, Longitude W -82.85839 Directions & Description: CONSOL consists of eleven tracts. One of the larger tracts is northeast of Hindman and Mousie and is crossed by KY 550. CONSOL of Kentucky WMA is the result of a cooperative agreement between CONSOL Energy and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. The 5,000-acre area includes approximately 90 percent hardwood forests and 10 percent reclaimed coal mine property. No active mining is ongoing on these parcels. This WMA has a noticeable population of elk, and is located near the site of one of the state's original elk releases. The area is open under statewide regulations for small game, turkey , elk and deer seasons. In addition to elk, the area contains deer, squirrels, rabbits, foxes, raccoons and a sizable population of turkeys. This area is within a Limited Entry Area for elk hunting, please refer to the elk portion of our website. All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and horses are not allowed on the management area.
