Threatened and Endangered Species

Kentucky’s Threatened and Endangered Species booklet features those species that are listed as federally threatened or endangered in the state due to:

  • the present or threatened destruction, modification, or curtailment of the species habitat or range;
  • over utilization for commercial, recreational, scientific, or educational purposes;
  • disease or predation;
  • the inadequacy of existing regulatory mechanisms;
  • other natural or manmade factors affecting their continued existence.


  • The booklet contains information about the 3 mammals, 4 birds, 5 fish, 1 insect, 1 crustacean, 14 mussels, and 9 plants that are listed as threatened or endangered.
