Commercial Nuisance Wildlife Control
Operator
A Commercial Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator (NWCO) permit authorizes a
person to take and transport specified wildlife at any time for commercial
nuisance wildlife control purposes.
Ø
A
person must be at least 18 years old to apply for a NWCO permit.
Ø
A
NWCO permit is valid from March 1 through the last day of February and costs
$100 per year.
Ø
A
permitted NWCO wishing to sell the pelts of furbearers taken during the
statewide furbearer season needs to possess a valid trapping or hunting license.
Ø
An
annual activity report must be completed and returned to the department
before a permit may be renewed.
Ø
Amendments
to 301 KAR 3:120 require a NWCO to successfully pass an examination administered
by the KDFWR. A
score of 70% or better must be achieved in order to obtain a permit for
2006-2007 and beyond.

NWCOs
who use a gun for nuisance control purposes must provide proof of completion of
the Kentucky Hunter Education Program or a course offered by another
jurisdiction that meets the course standards set by the International Hunter
Education Association.

People born before Jan. 1, 1975 are
not exempt from the Hunter Education Course.
