Non-Residents Transferring or Taking
Raptors
from Kentucky for Falconry
Non-residents transferring raptors from
Kentucky
for falconry purposes:
Ø
Any
class falconry permittee may trade or transfer a raptor from
Kentucky
with prior written approval from the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife
Resources (KDFWR). To transfer
raptors from
Kentucky
, an applicant MUST submit the following to KDFWR:
(1) non-resident falconry transfer application and (2) legible copies of
the permittee’s federal and state falconry permits.
Ø
Once
approved by KDFWR, the authorized application will serve as written approval
from the state for the transfer.
Ø
A
migratory bird acquisition and disposition report (Form 3-186A) must be
submitted within five (5) days of the transfer.
The form should be sent to the following: (1) original and a copy to the
USFWS; (2) retain a personal copy; and (3) send a copy to KDFWR (Attn. Shawchyi
Vorisek).
Non-residents taking raptors from
Kentucky
for falconry purposes:
Ø
A
non-resident of
Kentucky
can take and export raptors from the wild for falconry purposes by submitting
an application to KDFWR at least fifteen (15) days prior to the date the permit
is desired.
Ø
The
following must be submitted to KDFWR: (1)
a non-resident falconry take application and (2) legible copies of the
permittee’s federal and state falconry permits.
Ø
Once,
approved, the applicant will be sent a permit from KDFWR authorizing the take.
Ø
Prior
to the take, the permittee must purchase and have in his/her possession a
Kentucky
non-resident hunting license (currently $115).
Ø
A
migratory bird acquisition and disposition report (Form 3-186A) must be
submitted within five (5) days of the activity.

USFWS; (2) retain a personal copy; and (3) send a copy to KDFWR (Attn. Shawchyi
Vorisek).
Ø
A
Falconry Take Location Report should also be submitted to KDFWR indicating the
location of each bird taken.
