Picnic Shelters

Hunter Education learning to shoot shot gunThe KDFWR Headquarters offers both covered picnic shelters and open-air picnic tables, all with charcoal grills and conveniently located between the Salato Center and the large fishing lake.

Rental fees are listed below. If not already reserved, shelters are available on a first come, first served basis. The open-air picnic tables do not need to be reserved. Cancellations must be made 3 days in advance of the reservation date in order to receive a refund.  Because shelters are there to protect against rain, refunds cannot be made for weather unless it is severe (severe thunderstorm, tornado, etc.).

    Free (first come, first served)

  • Small Shelter (accommodates 35)
    4 hours or less: $25
    More than 4 hours: $50

  • Large Shelter (accommodates 100)
    4 hours or less $75
    More than 4 hours: $100

Rules of Use

  • Reservations are posted daily. Please respect reservation times.
  • Open from dawn to dusk, daily (an "all day" rental means "dawn to dusk" and will vary with the season)
  • There are no electrical outlets available
  • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited
  • Music must be kept at a reasonable volume and must not disrupt other visitors' enjoyment of the facilities
  • All garbage must be picked up and placed into the containers provided before leaving
  • Use of large tents, food vendors, inflatable play areas, and other equipment must be approved in advance.
