Can I bring my pets with me on my visit? 
NO. Pets are not allowed in the center, on our exhibit path, or on our hiking trails. You may have a LEASHED pet in the picnic/fishing area.

Can I bring my service dog?
 

Only fully trained harnessed or leashed service dogs and miniature ponies are allowed at the Salato Center and on the hiking trails. Service animals are not allowed on the groundhog area pathway or around the quail and raptor aviaries. For the safety of our animals, emotional support and comfort companions are not allowed at Salato.

Can I bring bicycles to the Salato Center?

NO. For your safety and the safety of our animals we do not allow bikes, skateboards, skates, hoverboards, or heely skate shoes to be ridden inside the Salato Center or on our exhibit path. However, you may ride bicycles, etc. in the picnic/fishing area. Strollers and wagons are permitted at Salato.

Can I bring snacks and drinks with me for my visit?
 YES! We do not sell food or drinks onsite, but you are more than welcome to pack your own! We ask that you eat at the designated areas and be mindful of cleaning up your trash, so that everyone can enjoy their visit. Alcoholic beverages, glass containers and straws are prohibited.

Can I smoke?
NO. Kentucky’s tobacco-free order prohibits smoking and the use of tobacco products (including cigarettes, chew, cigars, e-cigarettes and other tobacco products) on all state property by visitors and employees. This includes all buildings, grounds, parking lots, sidewalks, in state vehicles, and in personal vehicles on state properties controlled by the Finance and Administration Cabinet.​​​

Can I rent out a fishing pole?
Poles are currently unavailable for visitors at the Salato Center. If you have a large group, please contact Easton Copley to arrange for poles. Fishing licenses are required to fish in the state of Kentucky, purchase yours here! (https://app.fw.ky.gov/solar/ ) .

I found an injured/orphaned animal, can you take it?
 NO. The Salato Center is not a rehabilitation facility and does not have the space or resources to house animals other than those in our planned collection. Please reference this list of licensed rehabbers in Kentucky (http://app.fw.ky.gov/rehabilitatorNew/) . Other than service animals, no outside animals may be brought inside the Center because of the risk of disease.

I’m having nuisance wildlife issues, can you remove wildlife from my home or business?
NO. The Salato Center is not a Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator, you will need to visit our website to find a NWCO near you (https://app.fw.ky.gov/NuisanceControl/ ).

Can I feed the animals at Salato?
No. Feeding of exhibit animals is strictly prohibited.

Can I rent a picnic
shelter?
Yes. Reservations may be made online (https://fw.ky.gov/Education/Pages/Picnic-Shelters.aspx) in advance, or first come first serve on the day of arrival if available.

Will all the animals be visible on my visit?

There is a chance that one or more of the animals may not be on public exhibit when you visit due to various reasons including exhibit maintenance, health issues and exams, and training.

Will you provide refunds if it rains during my visit?
 Salato is open seasonally rain or shine. We do not offer refunds. Please check the weather before you visit and remember your rain gear.

How do I get a job at Salato?
 Salato has a small but dedicated staff. Like all positions within Kentucky state government, when jobs are available they will be posted to the website ( https://kypersonnelcabinet.csod.com/ats/careersite/search.aspx?site=2&c=kypersonnelcabinet). Can I fly my drone at Salato?
No. Unauthorized drones over the property are not allowed.

Shirts and Shoes are required at Salato.
