The white or fragrant water lily (Nymphaea odorata) has rounded leaves that arise on flexible stalks and float on top of the water. They are 6 -12 inches in diameter and have a slit about 1/3 of the length of the leaf. The flowers have separate stalks and are brilliant white with yellow centers. Ornamental varieties are often pink to red, but can be a range of colors.
