There are many species of Spikerush (Eleocharis spp.) but in general, they are small and look similar to other rushes, grasses, or sedges. Slender spike rush can grow completely underwater and appear as a submerged plant. Spikerush is an erect plant with a single stem and no leaves. The stem is is square in cross-section. The terminal seed head appears scale-like with short white hairs often visible. Spikerush can form dense stands in shallow water.
Mechanical Options
Spikerush can be controlled by cutting or removing it.
Biological Options
Grass carp can consume spikerush, but they are not effective at controlling it.
Chemical Options
The active ingredients that have been successful in treating spikerush include: Diquat (G) and Fluridone (G). E = excellent, G = good
