FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 8, 2022) — Conservation officers with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources are investigating after a Frankfort man died Thursday after falling from a boat at Herrington Lake in Mercer County.
Shortly before 1:15 p.m. (EDT) Thursday, a conservation officer with Kentucky Fish and Wildlife responded to a call about a report of a drowning at Mid Lake Marina.
According to initial reports, Gary B. LaFleur, 71, was on a johnboat when he fell overboard into the water as another person was attempting to secure the boat onto its trailer. He did not have a life jacket on at the time. A personal flotation device (PFD) was thrown to LaFleur and he was able to hold onto it until he could be pulled to land, where a witness began administering CPR.
Emergency responders transported LaFleur to Ephraim McDowell James B Haggin Hospital in Harrodsburg, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation is ongoing.
