Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area updates permit requirements

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 30, 2023) — A new self-service procedure that makes it easier for visitors to buy user permits is now in effect at Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area in Meade County.

The 2,222-acre area is known for its spectacular vistas of the Ohio River as well as opportunities for hunting, fishing and camping. Visitors to the area can now purchase user permits for these and other activities by accessing the Otter Creek website and completing their purchase online for fast and easy access to the area.

In-person purchase of permits will no longer be available at Otter Creek. To assist visitors to the area, new signage has been installed at the main entrance detailing admission fees, important information and a QR code with direct access to purchase a permit.

Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area offers camping from April through October. Reservations are taken Wednesday through Sunday by contacting the reservation hotline at 502-492-9854.

Five miles of trout streams, 2 miles of Ohio River access, plus plentiful deer, turkey, squirrels and rabbits make the area a popular destination among anglers and hunters. Also on the property are 20 miles of hiking trails, rifle and pistol ranges, a 3D archery range, and a disc golf course.

Daily admission to Otter Creek is $3 for visitors ages 12 and older, and an annual pass is available for $30 per person. Admission is free for children under 12. An additional special activity fee of $7 per day, or $70 a year, is charged to all visitors for use of the horse trails, mountain bike trails and shooting ranges.
