Taylorsville Lake WMA’s Old River Road scheduled for annual closures

​​​FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 26, 2024) — A portion of Old River Road paralleling the west side of Salt River in Anderson County will be closed to vehicular traffic April 6 - 7 and April 13 - May 5, 2024.

The access gates at Palmer Road and Old River Road off KY 44 at Taylorsville Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA), generally open from daylight until dark through summer, will be closed during the spring turkey hunting seasons.​​

  • Open now through Friday, April 5 (sunset)
  • Closed Saturday and Sunday, April 6-7
  • Open Monday, April 8 (sunrise), through Friday, April 12 (sunset)
  • Closed daily Saturday, April 13, through Sunday, May 5
  • Reopens Monday, May 6 (sunrise) until early August

High water or road maintenance may require additional temporary closures of Old River Road, as needed, and will be posted by signage.​​

Taylorsville Lake WMA will remain open for hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing. The available portion of Old River Road will continue to provide anglers with nearly two miles of walk-in access to the bank of the Salt River for the spring white bass run in the lake’s headwaters.​​

​​The area includes gravel parking lots and several small pull-offs dispersed along the roadway. Parking is permitted only in the graveled parking spots and designated pull-offs. Driving through fields or parking in other areas is subject to citation.

Licenses and permits are sold online through Kentucky Fish and Wildlife’s website at fw.ky.gov and at vendor locations​ across the state. A list of license agents by county is available on the department’s website.​​​
