Dewey Lake drawdown & limited access until March 2026

Dewey Lake Ramp Renovation Update March 9, 2026

The Goble Branch (Campground) boat ramp at Dewey Lake has reopened after renovations. However, the lake level is currently low, which may make it difficult for large boats to launch. At current water levels, the ramp is best suited for kayaks, jon boats, and other small vessels. Once the water returns to normal winter and summer levels, regular boat traffic can resume.

Dewey Lake drawdown & limited access until March 2026

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Huntington District, is proposing to perform a water level deviation at Dewey Lake (Floyd County) to facilitate the removal/replacement of all floating docks and dredge the sediment below the docks at Jenny Wiley State Park Marina.  To perform the proposed work, Dewey Lake will be lowered to 640 ft, 5 ft below the winter pool elevation.  This elevation will be maintained for four weeks, ending on or about March 10, 2026.

All docks currently at the marina will be replaced using existing anchors, and all used materials will be disposed of off-site.  The underlying sediment will be dredged, removing approximately 15,000 cubic yards of material.  Sediment will also be dredged from the area surrounding the marina boat ramp.  During this time, KDFWR will also be evaluating the Goble (campground) ramp for maintenance and potential improvements.   Under these conditions, boat access to the entire lake will be extremely limited and at times, potentially unavailable.   Upon completion of the proposed action, Dewey Lake will return to winter pool elevation (645 ft) and resume normal operations.
