Invasive species project planned on Rockcastle River WMA

Public Service Announcement

A portion of Rockcastle River Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Pulaski County will be closed to the public on Monday, May 13, 2024, and Thursday, May 16, 2024, to facilitate an extensive habitat improvement project.

A 333-acre tract near Bolthouse Road and a 65-acre tract near Acorn-Ano Road will receive treatment for invasive plant species, primarily autumn olive, that displace native flora and degrade wildlife habitat.

Project leaders are monitoring short- and long-range weather forecasts and will select a work date with favorable conditions to achieve optimal results on the property.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will announce the work date through an update on its website (fw.ky.gov) and X (Twitter) (@kyfishwildlife). Signs will also be posted, and gates will be closed at all access points to the project location. Access to all other tracts of the 2,924-acre WMA will not be affected and will remain open for public use.
