Vallisneria (Vallisneria americana) is also called eelgrass, for its long, thin, ribbon-like leaves that can grow up to 3 or 4 feet and are 1/2 to 3/4 inches wide. It is often found in flowing water. It bears its flower and fruit at the end of a long, thread-like stem that is often coiled.
Vallisneria can be controlled through cutting and raking, dyes or fertilizers, or barriers.
