Floyds Fork

Floyds Fork is a tributary of the Salt River that begins in Henry County and flows through eastern Jefferson County. Public access can be found in the Parklands of Floyds Fork located in central Kentucky just east of Louisville were the river makes its way south to its confluence with Salt River. It provides recreational anglers the opportunity to fish for rainbow trout, smallmouth and largemouth bass, as well as rock bass. The Parklands of Floyds Fork not only provides outdoor enthusiasts the opportunity to fish, but there are multiple access sites for canoeing and kayaking on Floyds Fork as well.

Floyds Fork Public Access Site Descriptions

North Beckley Canoe Access: (Additional Information/Directions)

A gravel/dirt access can be found just below Anglers Lake in the Beckley Creek Park area just off US 60. Turn down the paved road adjacent from Anglers Lake and a large, paved parking lot is available relatively close to Floyds Fork which makes for easy loading and unloading of paddle craft. Restrooms are available near the paved parking lot area and this site is suitable for canoe, kayaks and wading.

Creekside Canoe Access: (Additional Information/Directions)

A carry down access of concrete steps can be found nestled behind the Creekside Center in The Parklands of Floyds Fork. There is a paved drive that goes to the access for loading and unloading paddle craft. Amenities nearby are an information center and restrooms, picnic area, large paved parking area and a play/spray ground as well. This site is suitable for canoe, kayak and bank fishing.

Fisherville Canoe Access: (Additional Information/Directions)

The Fisherville canoe access is situated just off route 155 on Old Taylorsville Road where a gravel/dirt access is located on Floyds Fork. Paved parking is available, and vehicles can be driven somewhat close to the stream for easy loading and unloading of paddle craft. This site is suitable for canoes, kayaks and wading. No other amenities are available at this location.

Cane Run Canoe Access: (Additional Information/Directions)

Just off Echo Trail, a long-paved drive leads to a large parking area were there is access to Floyds Fork. Follow the gravel path from the parking area down to a gravel/dirt access into the stream. This site is suitable for canoe, kayak and wading. There are no other amenities at this location.

Seaton Valley Paddling Access: (Additional Information/Directions)

A carry down access of concrete steps can be found at the entrance of Turkey Run Park in The Parklands of Floyds Fork. There is a paved drive that goes to the access for loading and unloading paddle craft. Amenities nearby are a large paved parking area and restrooms as well. This site is suitable for canoe, kayak and wading.

Broad Run Valley Paddling Access: (Additional Information/Directions)

A carry down access of concrete steps can be found at the end of Fairmount Road in The Parklands of Floyds Fork. There is a paved drive that goes directly to the access for easy loading and unloading paddle craft. Amenities nearby are a paved parking area and restrooms. This site is suitable for canoe, kayak and wading.

Cliffside Paddling Access: (Additional Information/Directions)

A carry down access of concrete steps can be found just off Broad Run Park Road in The Parklands of Floyds Fork. There is a paved drive that goes directly to the access for easy loading and unloading paddle craft. The amenities nearby are restrooms and play/spray grounds which are located at the Cliffside Center less than a mile from the paddling access. This site is suitable for canoe and kayaks.

Fishing Tips

Rainbow Trout: Rainbow trout can be found throughout Floyds Fork, but areas around rocky riffles or shoals can provide good numbers of fish. Baits used to target rainbow trout can be but not limited to a variety of flies, in-line spinners, corn, cheese, curly tailed grubs or marabou jigs can be very good options on Floyds Fork. When targeting rainbow trout be aware of seasonal catch and release regulations.

Smallmouth Bass: Smallmouth bass can be found throughout Floyds Fork, but areas above and below gravel shoals will produce good numbers of quality fish. Rocky banks with current and depth are also a solid option. The majority of bass tackle will work, but crawfish imitations, 3 ½ inch tube jigs, along with finesse worms and 3 or 4 inch soft plastic jerkbaits are the best options here.

Kentucky Spotted/
Rock Bass: Target chunk rock banks with woody debris and log jams in the slow, shallow pools. Try fishing small inline spinner baits, 2 inch crawfish crank baits or 2 inch black grubs over the rocks. Don’t overlook a weightless 3 inch senko rigged wacky style, as quality rock bass willing strike this bait. Rock bass can also be taken on live bait fished near or on the bottom. Try fishing minnows, red worms and nightcrawlers.

Channel Catfish: Target deeper pools and tight bends in the river with log jams and slow to moderate current. Fish baits like chicken livers, worms, cut bait, and stink baits suspended or on the bottom. Best luck would be around dusk and dawn or low light conditions when catfish are more active.
