Conservation Officers Investigating Bull Elk’s Death in Letcher County

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 21, 2022) — Conservation officers with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources are asking for the public's help as they investigate the death of a bull elk in Letcher County.

The 5x6 bull elk was found off Bobby's Farm Road in the area of Seco and Neon on Dec. 3.

Conservation officers believe the animal was shot near the RH Group Hunting Access Area or Elk Horn Coal Hunting Access Area. Week 1 of the cow elk firearms season was Nov. 27–Dec. 1.

Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard, Kentucky, or call Kentucky Fish and Wildlife at 1-800-25-ALERT.
