FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 11, 2022) — The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission will consider designating the commissioner of the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources as the agency's chief purchasing officer in a special called video teleconference meeting scheduled at 1:30 p.m. (EDT) Thursday.
The meeting will be livestreamed and archived on the department's YouTube channel at youtube.com/FishandWildlifeKY. A link to the livestream will be posted on the department's homepage at fw.ky.gov before the start of the meeting.
Thursday's meeting will take place at the Administration Building on the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources campus in Frankfort, and it is open to the public. Members of the commission will participate in the meeting either in person or via video teleconference.
The only action item on the special called video teleconference meeting's agenda is related to the passage of Senate Bill 217 earlier this year. The bill – now law - allows the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to conduct all procurements necessary for the performance of its duties upon approval of the commission.
Under the bill, the commissioner must have the commission's approval before acting as the agency's chief purchasing officer.
The commission will consider approval of the commissioner as the chief purchasing officer for the purposes of conducting procurements for the department (including development and implementation of policies, procedures and practices consistent with all applicable statutes and regulations) and approval of the department to perform its own bidding and procurement in accordance with the procedures established by KRS Chapter 45A, pursuant to the bill.
The meeting agenda can be found at fw.ky.gov. On the homepage, click on the “Commission Meetings/Agendas and Recaps" link.
The commission is a nine-member board, comprised of volunteers who serve four-year terms. Commission members are nominated by hunters and anglers, appointed by the Governor, and confirmed by the Kentucky Senate. The commission recommends hunting, fishing and boating regulations to conserve fish and wildlife and support related outdoor recreation opportunities in the Commonwealth; regulations are then promulgated by the department and vetted by legislative committees.
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife's main campus is located at 1 Sportsman's Lane (formerly 1 Game Farm Road) in Frankfort, and its Administration Building is a large, two-story brick building about ½ mile north of the campus entrance. The entrance is located off U.S. 60, approximately 1½ miles west of U.S. 127.
Following the May 12 meeting, the next scheduled quarterly commission meeting is June 3 in Frankfort.
