Ribbon cutting ceremony will commemorate opening of new boat ramp on Hinkston Creek in Bourbon County

FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 29, 2025) — A new boat ramp on Hinkston Creek near Millersburg in Bourbon County is now open for the public to use and enjoy.

To commemorate its opening, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources Commissioner Rich Storm will join representatives from project partners, including Bourbon County Judge-Executive Michael Williams, Bourbon County Magistrate Scott Wells and Millersburg Mayor Julie Hopkins for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. (EDT) on Friday, May 9, 2025.

The event is open to the public.

Hinkston Creek Boat Ramp is located just outside of downtown Millersburg, off East 2nd Street. It features a single-lane concrete ramp and a gravel parking area that will provide year-round access to Hinkston Creek. This launch site does not require a fee.

This project site was selected by Kentucky Fish and Wildlife in 2023 and was designed and constructed in the summer and fall of 2024 by agency engineering staff. Federal funding for the project was provided by the Sport Fish Restoration Act, celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2025, in partnership with Bourbon County Fiscal Court, which will provide long-term maintenance of the site.

Previously, there was no public access facility available on Hinkston Creek within Bourbon County and adjacent Nicholas County. The nearest existing access facilities are located in the lower South Fork Licking River in Harrison County and Stoner Creek in Bourbon County.

The site is now a choice destination for anglers, boaters and paddlers of the area and provides easy launch access parking for ten-plus trucks and trailers. Depending on stream location, anglers can enjoy fishing for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, rockbass, bluegill and catfish.
