FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 10, 2022) — The Salato Wildlife Education Center in Frankfort reopens March 15.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources operates the center as part of its mission to educate the public about the state's native wildlife as well as hunting and fishing opportunities. The facility provides indoor and outdoor viewing opportunities for a variety of wildlife, including a black bear, bald eagle, bobcats, deer, bison and more.
Tickets can be purchased at the door or online up to 30 days in advance. Face coverings are optional for visitors and staff inside Salato.
The Salato Center offers entertaining educational programs and activities throughout the season that utilize the center's collection of live wildlife. Popular examples include public wildlife trainings and feedings, raptor encounters and other live educational programming. Online resources for virtual learning programs are also available.
The facility is off U.S. 60, approximately 1½ miles west of the U.S. 127 intersection in Frankfort. Look for the bronze deer statue atop the agency sign at the entrance of the main Kentucky Fish and Wildlife campus.
Hours are 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The Salato Center is closed on Sundays, Mondays and state holidays. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for youth ages 5 - 18. Children younger than 5 years old are admitted free. The center also offers annual memberships for individuals and families.
