FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 21, 2025) — A nomination meeting to fill the 4th District representative’s seat on the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission will be held on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, at Rough River Dam State Resort Park.
The commission is a nine-member board that meets quarterly in Frankfort to help provide oversight of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources and guide development of the state’s regulations on hunting, fishing, boating and conservation.
Commission members are nominated at public meetings. The governor selects one nominee from each district to the board, who must then be confirmed by the Kentucky Senate.
The meeting to nominate candidates for the 4th District will be held at the Falls of Rough Convention Center at Rough River Dam State Resort Park, 450 Lodge Road, Falls of Rough, KY 40119. Doors for the meeting open at 6 p.m. (Central Time), with the meeting to start at 7:30 p.m. The 4th District includes Adair, Barren, Cumberland, Edmonson, Grayson, Green, Hardin, Hart, Larue, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Nelson, Taylor and Washington counties.
If more than five candidates are nominated at the meeting, the top five candidates will be selected by vote for consideration by the governor.
Those eligible to nominate prospective members and vote include residents of the district who purchased a Kentucky hunting or fishing license for the past two consecutive years, or those who hunted or fished for the past two years but were license exempt. Landowners who hunt or fish on their own property are license exempt.
Nominees for a commission seat must be a current resident of their respective districts and must have legally hunted and fished for the past five consecutive years. They must be well informed about wildlife conservation and restoration. They cannot be a convicted felon.
The governor will receive the lists of nominees to make an appointment for each district. The Kentucky Senate must then confirm the appointment. The appointee confirmed for the 4th District will serve for a term ending Dec. 31, 2029.
